I had the chance to help direct the 2014-15 creative campaign for the Phoenix Suns whie freelancing at Fisher. We worked on everything from the season-opener player intro video to social content to traditional media. It was a lot of fun, especially when I had the chance to shoot a little hoops on the court. My 12 year old self would have died on the spot. He also would have argued against trading Dragic and IT. 

Mozilla is the only major browser made by a non-profit organization and not by a huge corporate entity. The only problem was that few people were aware of that fact. So as the Mozilla team was beginning to go into a new phase of browser development that required more frequent updates (much like Chrome was doing,) we set out to establish their non-profit perspective on the web as an important differentiator.

We worked closely with the Mozilla team in San Francisco and Toronto to determine how the new brand should present itself to internal and external audiences, across all mediums. Even today, Mozilla emphasizes their .org heart and we're thrilled it's worked well for them.

We were charged with helping to rebrand Local Motor's Rally Fighter so that it would sell. What we did however, was stop focusing on the vehicle itself and turn the attention to what the customers were really buying - a once in a lifetime experience, with a free car thrown in for good measure. Add in a few well-placed film cameos over the years, and we attracted thrill seekers like NASCAR driver Ben Kennedy, MLB flame-thrower Tim Lincecum, and a good number Fortune 500 CEOs. Oh, and most big agency people would laugh at our budget, there's that.

Everything we did for the Greenville Humane Society was a labor of love. Oftentimes as Group Creative Director, I was putting my own money into the production, but it was for a good cause. The video was shot in LA by Uber films who produced a few paying pieces for other clients. We got the Humane Society on CNN a few weeks later with our irreverent pet personals, and we solved a brochure distribution problem by attaching 'randy' dogs on our legs as we passed them out. Everything we did had to be smart, cheap and effective and I'm happy to say that it was, for the sake of all the dogs, cats, bunnies and horses in Greenville. 

The hardworking family that we are, we instantly related to two of the hardest working brothers Arizona has ever seen, photography pioneers Emery and Ellsworth Kolb. The Kolb brothers dedicated their lives to capturing the beauty of the Grand Canyon, and their beloved studio that stood for over a century was in jeopardy. It became our mission to tell their story of courage, ingenuity and passion. To keep the history alive. To Save Kolb. Which we ultimately did.  The campaign featured a website with an audio essay about the brothers, a series of print, and a set of museum quality posters given to contributors. 

We are helping two sisters take on the $27B fitness industry. So what’s a small start-up to do in order to compete? Simple. Make a good product, find the right partners, and then build a passionate community of brand enthusiasts to augment their tiny budget. Through the power of sisterhood, we helped Senita build a rabid Instagram following while sharing the mantra of democratizing fitness for everyone. Oh, and they went from zero sales to annual revenue of $2 million and growing every day.

While waiting for the results of a global tracking study, Firefox asked us to come up with a campaign to drive downloads and awareness of its mission. Here's what we did: We delivered the cuteness. 

We found the nation's premier firefox exhibit in the country, in Knoxville, TN which just happened to have a few new cubs arrive a few weeks earlier. Then, we made celebrities out of them at FirefoxLive.org. The site featured five angles of live-streaming cuteness, a first ever "treat tracker" that rewarded the cubs at different download milestones and links to support wildlife organizations. All in the name of telling the world Firefox is made by a non-profit organization.

All colleges have a binge drinking problem to some degree. Chalk it up to the immaturity and perceived immortal self-image of youth. What we did for Clemson was to make the responsible drinking message less preachy and less institutional. We had to get the students attention. We did so using interesting placements across the campus like computer lab screensavers, dormroom door hangers, laptop vinyls, restroom graphics and of course film and posters. Before launch, the campaign was titled 'Control your Evil You' but was changed before launch due to a tragedy involving binge drinking that claimed the life of a young female student. Who happened to be a twin. I've often wished we would have published the campaign in time to possibly save her life, but hopefully we got a few more students to pause before having one too many. 

The radio spot named Tara won a prestigious Radio Mercury Award - given out by non other than Perez Hilton and Rick Dees at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills.

Yes Essentials is a brand of innovative stain-free, static-free, odor-free carpet that is installed in a lot of automobiles. Produced by a company called Milliken we set out to create a television spot that would dramatize the benefits of the textile before the OEM (car manufacturers) buying season and also work as an exhibit teaser. We went from a simple sketch to full-scale production in days. During the shoot we almost lost an actor to a drowning by chocolate. A first to be sure.

With the new season threatened by lockout and the previous nine consecutive years lacking a playoff appearance, we helped 'The Faithful' 49ers fans connect to their team like never before. 

It was clearly time to show the fans some love so we launched a social media fan search asking, “What does Faithful mean to you?” We then took the fans with the best answers and immortalized them on season tickets and in print, TV, outdoor and a microsite called The Hall of Faithful. The site allowed fans to create and share their own Faithful Fan Cards during the season. Mercifully, the football Gods smiled upon the Niners and 2011, the best season the team had in many, many years. Faith is a powerful thing.

Taco Time has a cult following in the Pacific Northwest. We fed off of the cravings that people have for their fare, and acknowledged the temptation in our series of TV spots. Most importantly, we killed off their dancing cactus mascot. The politician spot admittedly hits a different note in our current climate.

Our first project at Magnetry would take us to one of the biggest stages of all: The Detroit International Auto Show. It would also give us a huge opportunity wrapped in very challenging clothing. A product launch that had the potential to disrupt an entire industry, but in order for that to happen, we had to make sure it disrupted the auto show. 

"What if..." ruled the day. Tasked with designing an exhibit, we instead asked "What if..." we printed and assembled the car LIVE? And then, "What if..." we gave RIDES inside the show in the very same car we had just printed? Our little 'stunt that could' garnered tens of millions in publicity for about 1% the investment. That's the power of a big idea. And a great client. 

The Arizona Citizens Clean Election Commission watches out for the average citizen by helping them become more informed, engaged and present in the political process. Our tactic with this campaign was to reflect how most citizens feel and to provide the answer to that feeling in one fell swoop. 

Who knew that real-world politics would soon sound just as ridiculous?

There are two passions almost all Democrats and Republicans share: complaining and drinking. We were elected by Nixon’s restaurant and bar to introduce opinionated, beer-bellied American citizens to their new haven. We weren’t afraid to use a slightly scandalous tone (see: Watergate), but we chose not to pick on any one political party. The result? Nixon’s became the hub for politicians and reporters alike to indulge in a little MSNBC and unsettle their differences over a pint.

I'm really proud of this work, a collaboration during my time at Engine Company 1 with the local ABC affiliate in San Francisco. Peter Bell and I wrote the narratives and handed off storyboards to the internal team at the station, which produced them in their studio. They definitely stood out in a sea of bad local TV and won a bunch of awards to boot. Creating is one thing, helping others play a role in the creation provides another level of enjoyment.

Just over four years ago, Grand Canyon University wasn't a place that many people had heard of. Now, they're the biggest thing in education. At Moses, we've helped turn them into a textbook brand success story by working on every aspect of their account. We produce film, television, recruitment materials, sports marketing, outdoor, student handbooks, digital experiences and more - all to make sure that everyone knows who is the newest, coolest Division 1 school on the block. Some of that work is shared on this page. 

One of the jobs of a Creative Director is to direct not just the work, but the brand of the agency itself. When I arrived at Moses, it was mired in the past. Weaker, less-experienced agencies were winning business that they should have been winning, and the building itself needed new energy. I got busy and while improving the creative output of the current clients, I put a plan in place to overhaul the entire agency. Nothing was sacred. 

Just like nation-building, agency-building isn't something one should do for someone else, but I was passionate about the place having worked there earlier in my career too. I wanted it to improve and believed the best days were ahead. Ultimately, I was fired the day we finished. Good times. (The materials are being used currently, going on five years later, which says something.) 

If you want to find pure baseball joy, you might have to take a trip to the minors. Those small market teams put their heart and soul into trying to make it to the big leagues. Similarly, marketing a minor league team allows you to do so for the love of the game. Using only small space placements, little radio spots, a bit of outdoor and some ingenuity, we were able to not only sell more than a million tickets over just a few years, we won the National Sports Forum Adchievement awards for overall excellence—their highest honor. We were the first non-major sports league team to win, and we did so for three straight years. Not bad for a scrappy team down south.

It has all been leading up to this. At some point, I decided to stop building agencies for others and instead start building a home that better reflected my values and better personified the principles necessary for answering the toughest problems with the most interesting answers. In 2014, I started Magnetry and began to assemble a talented team of wonderful humans all pledging allegiance to craft, concept, and creativity. I'm most proud of them, because they are awesome people.
